Holly's Journal 5 + 6 Months:
Week 14
Holly has had a busy week again. She started taking her first solid food, baby rice and seem to like it. We will need to be
careful though of the amount of fluids that she gets, not to get constipated.
Further along she managed to roll over from her front to her back. Some pictures were made to try and capture this and are published on http://mysite.freeserve.com/hollyzijderveld2
She is also starting to take fruit juice, and also seems to like this. We are sure she is going to enjoy food in general. She keeps on talking and makes different
noises every day.
I told you she has been busy, as she also managed to purposely grab for objects (rattle) and swap them from one hand to the other.
University here we come!
Week 15/16
Holly has been to The Netherlands for a visit to the grandparents. Holly was a star. The flight was a breeze and the trip there only took a few hours.
She did manage to pick this moment to start teething.
Pictures of her time on Holland with the Dutch family will appear later on on this site.
The flight back was a little less amusing. flying on the infamous Thursday that England grinded to a halt because of some snow, we were diverted to Luton from Stansted, had the
hairiest landing we ever had and then spent 6 hours on the airport awaiting our lift.
Granddad, who was picking us up spent a good 13 hours in the car. We thank him very much!
Holly also had her third instalment of Shots. Again she was good as gold.
She weighed in at 13 pounds and 2 ounces. She is continuing with some solid foods. Tonight we will try some mashed bananas.
We will let you know how we are getting on.
Week 17 18
4 Months!
Holly is still doing very well. She enjoys all the different types of food available to her now which include
baby rice and pureed bananas as well as Rusk (Soort Liga voor de Nederlandse lezers)
She still has a little trouble with her teething but the teeth still do not want to break through.
She seems to grow constantly especially length wise. All her 3 to 6 months baby cloths almost seem to small for her.
Holly also enjoys bouncing away in her elasticised seat that we hang of the doors. Pictures of that are on the Camera Action Shots page on Hollyzijderveld2.
Month 5
Holly is still doing very well and growing steadily becoming heavier every day.
She is getting more and more alert to the general world around her and certainly very aware of things like food.
Her achievements up to today include things like;
Being able to turn around 3 quarters of the way from her back to her belly. The only things that are still in the way are her arms. When she will get frustrated enough she should be able to manage that one. Of course we have been turning over from her belly to her back for a long time.
Also she manages nowadays to really push with her legs when on her belly causing her bum to go up into the air. This then is a forward shuffle movement and with a bit of head wriggling we actually are getting a little forward. The only things again are her arms trailing behind. We will need to do some baby iron pumping exercises to get those arms fit.
We have got a feeling though that she will be on the move fairly soon.
Her desire for food and the complete amazement when seeing us eat is heart breaking. She loves the food and loves to play with food.
She also has a great desire to put everything in her mouth especially paper.
Also she will when you pull her up from a lying position to a sitting position push herself up to a standing position in one fluent movement. She is very strong.
The other big thing is the full, out loud and long lasting laugh that she has when mummy is doing funny in front of her. It is special. Sometimes she will laugh so hard that it almost seems she is starting to cry. Oh Joy! It does make mummy and daddy’s jaws hurt what with all the laughing and smiling we do.
Then there is still the achievement of being able to focus on something and pick it up from the kitchen top with both hands like a packet of her food. This will of course immediately go into the direction of her mouth and will try and shove the whole thing in. But being able to grab something with both hands whilst looking at it was fantastic. This will cause more little problems of course. When holding her in front of you and walking you will certainly need to watch where her hands are going. Normally now she will spread out her arms when being carried in the hope that she might by accident get hold of something that you are walking past. I think it will be time to get the house more baby safe then it is now!
The other big news this month, this week is that Holly is no longer the youngest of the family. My brother and his wife are the proud and happy new parents of a baby girl called Merel.
We wish them all the luck and energy they will need. Merel was born on the 8th of March exactly 5 months after her cousin Holly.
We will try and keep you updated here!
